I chose to study Japanese, because I like learning languages. I really enjoy learning languages and so this is the third one I've studied at Columbia. I was choosing between Korean and Japanese and since I know Mandarin Chinese, I thought that learning Japanese would be easier. I am excited to learn a new language, particularly a new Asian language. I am also excited to be able to speak with my friends in Japanese. What has been difficult so far is learning a new alphabet/character system, but I feel like that has also been very rewarding. I enjoy the challenge.
